Self- Reflection (my life)

My life was in the gallows; I watched it fade, slowly by slowly, I was unhappy and was scared to even call it a problem, though I had a tool that would help me – my camera. Scared of stepping on grounds I thought were forbidden. Chained up in life, doing what others wanted. Should I take off my shoes? Yes, if it makes me happy now. I have learnt something that I wasn’t fine with, using my photos to express myself. In just five days, I found myself, I became a risk taker, a rule breaker, I created a rebel, a good one that was after self-happiness. I reflected. I smiled again, not taking the choices life made for me so personal as before. I left my so-called “comfort zone.”

Miriam Namutebi is 22 year old, less talkative, soon to be graduate of industrial fine art and design from Makerere University and lover of photography from the time she held her first camera at the age of 17. Her dad handed her the first camera, a fujifilm S200 EXR and she saw a life.
Her love for the camera is so intimate, it could pass as her diary.
Passionate with photographing still life and humans, she has extensively explored bodies of people afflicted with vitiligo, a chronic skin condition, as having faced its wrath herself, she found the strength.
Currently, Miriam is working on a photography project connected to vitiligo and the perception of the community where the victims live, where she hopes to hold an exhibition. She is also working at the New Vision publishing company as a photographer.
