“I am looking for a sacred object, the Byeri, a reliquary set that connects us to ancestors, in the belief of the Fang people. Through my work, I recreate this missing link that lives another life in Western museums and private collections. I chose to load it with two symbols: a palm tree symbolizing life in many African civilizations and the box of a phone that had been stolen from me. A parallel is thus created between material loss and the loss of collective memory.”
