Notebook concept

A red rope knotted on the corner of the pages. A clear mark to underline the importance of each of them. A reading rhythm precisely marked. The artist does not develop a unitary process but leaves to every page the task to tell a story from the beginning to the end, creating combinations of estranged images, which hit the reader with their conceptual and stylistic variety.
From the municipal elections which occurred in Ivory Coast in 2013 to the landscape of Adjahui (the village visited during the workshop), from the homage to the rise of writing to the representation of the spiral of death, from a treasure hidden behind an almost transparent page to friendship symbolized through two different colored ropes braided together. The articulate structure of the notebook gives us a privileged point of view on the artist’s imagination which appears fragmented and complex and pushes the reader to looking for an interpretation that, perhaps, simply doesn’t exist.

(the concept’s text is by Raffaella Carillo)
