A Snake Reading Its Own Tale

2022

To observe this exhibition’s Detour theme, I was inspired to create a work betokening a narrative in which a creature’s transformation has returned to its origin; a skeletal snake composed of string and glue has sprung forth from a lush thicket within the pages of a book. The creature has forged its path from this contained universe, its identity defined. Yet, it has encountered an opportunity to pause and consider its inception as a living entity and an idea. Sometimes a detour can guide you right back to where your journey began. Silly title and all, it serves as a reminder to accept evolution and to welcome spontaneity while keeping a rearview mirror- focused eye on my fundamental motivations for creating these works.
