A chaotic mix of drawings related to observed, experienced, shared… and seemingly historical events. An unfolding of lines in the form of a narrative, 2010

The modest format of this sketchbook makes it suitable for a number of different uses. Besides, the notebook perfectly adapts to the spaces provided by a garment. So, to make it short, the graphic signs drawn in this Moleskine notebook comply with what I call the “presentism”, a day-by-day practice that follows the logic of my movements. The drawings convey the awareness of diversity, which makes our life experiences more significant. This way, each drawing evokes human actions, life rituals experienced in real time (people carrying Ikea boxes for refurbishing their flat, the “relax of the body” after the hard work of “devatting” in the cellar of a winemaker cooperative). Other drawings instead refer to historical and anthropological events (woodcutters sawing huge trees on behalf of slave institutions).

Audry Liseron-Monfils has a penchant for experimentation and unpredictability. In his works he always tries to actively involve his viewers. To this purpose, his performances include forms of physical and optical displacement, both in exhibition centres and public spaces. In the same way, his installations, consisting of drawings, sculptures and objects, which interact with each other and with the environment, result from the artist’s desire to create an experience, to provide a freedom of view and perception, and to exercise a form of control over reality.
