…Migrants & power, kings & colonels, prime ministers & high officials, civilians & soldiers, the sea between two continents. What is the connection? A handful of years and some thousands of lives.

My Moleskine is a little journey between Italy and the Horn of Africa. I found old photographs and political propaganda materials, which I reproduced in pastel and graphite pencil. At the end of the day, I think there is no point in underlining that these issues are still relevant today, we should rather recognise the subversive role that each of us plays, or might play, within these power relationships. Bon voyage (M.C.)

“I believe art is an original creation able to overcome individuality and, perhaps, even time. My work is often pervaded by a constant, heated dialogue with some sort of African component. This strong fascination with the ‘uncanny’ coming from elsewhere is probably the most evident feature of my work. As a result, I am interested in cultural hybridisation, in the history of man: in his risible victories.”
